BAL VIKAS
The "Bal Vikas" (Blossoming of the Child) Program at Sai Illam combines both the SSE (Sai Spiritual Education for Children) and EHV (Education in Human Values) facets of the Educare guidelines outlined by Swami. The program is catered towards students aged 5 - 17. Sri Sathya Sai Baba has stressed that the purpose of education is not for the acquisition of knowledge or material possessions, but first and foremost for character development and service to humanity. Before Academic and Scientific knowledge can be of use to the individual, the basic human values must be inculcated from a young age. Only then can the worldly knowledge, gained through education, make positive and constructive contribution to the individual and society.
Bal Vikas Classes take place every Sunday
Session A (SK - Gr.6) 9.30am - 11.00am
Session B (Gr. 7 - Gr. 11) 12.00pm - 2.30pm
The word Educare means to bring out that which is within Human Values, and latent in every human being; one cannot acquire them from outside. They have to be elicited from within. Educare means to bring out human values. 'To bring out' means to translate them into action.
SAI SPIRITUAL EDUCATION (SSE)
The goals of the SSE program are to help children become aware of their divine nature, to draw out the Human Values (which are inherent in them) and to put them into practice, to teach the children about the unity of all faiths, and to prepare them to live a spiritual life in this world.
The life and teachings of Sathya Sai Baba, the five human values, and the essential unity of all faiths comprise the substance of the SSE program.
EDUCATION IN HUMAN VALUES (EHV)
EHV is an integral part of the Educare programs blessed and charioteered by Swami.
Baba has said:
- Education has two aspects:
- The first is related to external and worldly education, which is nothing but acquiring bookish knowledge. In the modern world, we find many well versed and highly qualified in this aspect.
- The second aspect known as Educare is related to Human Values
BHAJAN CLASSES
Bhajan singing is an integral part of the Bal Vikas Program. Bhajan classes are offered weekly on Fridays after Bhajans from 8.45PM to 9.30PM
BAL VIKAS BAND
All students aged 10 to 17, within the Sai Illam Bal Vikas Program, are required to join the band group. The band group initiates many of the Bal Vikas functions hosted by the students. From the year 2011 onwards, the group has been given the privilege to lead the annual Walk For Values, hosted by the Sathya Sai School of Toronto.
